As we enter February, the month of LOVE, we are devoting this month to focusing on loving ourselves. While much of our time is spent loving and caring for others, it is important to remember to make time to love and care for ourselves. You might note that I did not say "find time." If your days are anything like mine I often feel like there are not enough hours in the day to do everything I feel I should or could be doing. This is why it is important to be intentional about MAKING time for yourself. Schedule it into your day or week like you would for anything else. Here are just a few ideas on how you can love yourself and make time for self care:
GET HEALTHY- Investing in your health is an easy way to love yourself! It can be as easy as going for a walk each day or working on making healthier food choices. Consider getting a workout buddy to keep you accountable and to keep you company at the gym or a local fitness class. Follow along on Facebook all month as Miss Thao shares her "Couch to 5k" journey
DATE NIGHT- sometimes just getting away from your typical routine and having some adult time can do wonders. Personally, I have a hard time not talking about my kids while were out, but it's nice to be able to have these conversations uninterrupted while eating warm food. It's also a nice opportunity for my husband and I to reconnect and make sure we're on the same page (or at least the same chapter) when it comes to all things life.
MINDFULNESS- Taking time to be still and quiet can do wonders for your self care. Try starting with just a minute or two of yoga, meditation or mindfulness activities and increase the time from there.
TREAT YOURSELF- consider treating yourself to something special. This could be as simple as buying yourself a small treat in the grocery checkout line, or better yet get your groceries delivered so you don't have to go grocery shopping at all. I have found that getting groceries delivered or doing grocery pick up actually save me money sometimes because I plan ahead and stick to the list (I've used Jewel which offers great promo codes and $ off a lot of the time, and if you select a 4 hour delivery window delivery is free. There is a $3.95 service fee) (groceries delivered, by something, massage)
FINDING A HOBBY- Do you scrapbook, craft, dabble in photography, enjoy cooking? Whatever it is you currently have an interest in or if there is something you've always wanted to try, be intentional about making time to do it. Maybe you can carve out a few minutes a day or plan ahead and make a day of it!
MAKING TIME FOR FRIENDS- How many times have you said, "We should grab coffee or a glass of wine." to a friend. Be intentional about making this happen.
Whatever you do to love yourself, make sure you are making the time for it!!
